Yoga Dhyan Center is dedicated to teaching yoga and meditation to clients seeking balance, focus, and peace of mind. Founded by Sundarajan Ramaswamy, the center has been operating for over a decade.

"I've been doing this for more than a decade," Sundarajan says. "I started my career as a medical representative way back in the pre-Internet era. After many years of relentless working and earning, I learned my lessons and paid the price for them!"

With the rise of the Internet, Sundarajan quickly adopted the brave new world of networking. "The world of meditation and yoga welcomed me and gave me an opportunity to give back to younger people the benefits of doing yoga regularly," he says. "So I decided to become an instructor and set up my yoga studio, called Yoga Dhyan Center."

When the world was struck by the pandemic, online became the only way to conduct classes. Sundarajan conducted his first online yoga session, which participants enjoyed.

"Initially, I wasn't targeting any segment in particular; I just taught whoever came into the class on their own," he says. "But once online classes became the norm, I decided to focus on working professionals who are stressed due to overthinking, anxiety, and lack of focus."

The challenge

Initially, Sundarajan had set up a small studio on the terrace of his house with a thatched roof. After the pandemic, the scenario changed drastically: No one was coming to the premises to attend yoga sessions.

"That's when I adopted the online model. Getting students to the class was the number one challenge. Creating awareness and the need for joining an online class was the other challenge."

Sundarajan began by contacting his existing contact list and friends. He soon realized email marketing was the way forward. He experimented with multiple types of software and began looking at online marketing, which led him to Zoho's suite of applications.

Sundarajan also tried various other email marketing software tools, but they were all standalone applications and couldn't integrate with his site.

"Since my site is built on WordPress and Zoho Campaigns is available as a plugin, I could easily add it to my site," he says. "Establishing an online presence involves a certain amount of technical knowledge and content delivery methodology. It was quite challenging to learn both and deliver them in an interesting manner. But I soon discovered Zoho Campaigns."
