Why businesses switch from Microsoft Power Apps to Zoho Creator

    01

    AI features cost extra

In Power Apps, AI features draw down a separate pool of credits that must be acquired on top of user licenses. This pool is metered, with credits being consumed for each run. Unused credits don't roll over monthly, and when credits are exhausted, AI actions are blocked.

    With Zoho Creator

Zoho Creator, on the other hand, bundles AI features in its subscription. It's also not metered, and the cost is fixed with seat count.

    02

Reporting is dependent on purchasing Power BI

Power Apps ships with only lightweight visualizations by default. Real dashboards and reporting require Power BI, complicating licensing.

    With Zoho Creator

Zoho Creator offers a built-in dashboard builder with intuitive auto-visualization and native Zoho Analytics integration.

    03

    Automation requires separate products

For automation, Power Apps is dependent on Power Automate and Microsoft Copilot Studio, which need to be procured separately. This complicates workflow automation and chatbots.

    With Zoho Creator

Zoho Creator provides a built-in, visual drag-and-drop workflow builder with a Blueprints feature for business process management (BPM). It also offers native Zoho Flow integration, expanding the ability of the platform to integrate with more than 1,000 third-party services.

Zoho Creator vs. Microsoft Power Apps: Key differences

In Zoho Creator, agentic AI is woven into all stages of app building. The AI agent first creates business requirement documents (BRDs) and refines them. From there, it takes over as an end-to-end app development assistant: Use it to generate a working app from a plain-language description, or make context-aware app modifications to a low-code app through natural language prompts.

Once the app is built, the agent handles QA automatically, generating test cases, testing workflows, and catching and healing errors. Once deployed, end users can query their app data in natural language rather than building reports.

The platform's other AI capabilities include app, dashboard, workflow, Deluge code, and form generation from prompts. Zoho Creator supports several large language models (LLMs), including Zoho's own Zia LLM, Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's GPT models, and Google's Gemini.

From AI-powered data cleansing during data import to ready-to-use and custom AI models, Zoho Creator's AI and agentic capabilities are built in to the platform and bundled with each plan. AI isn't sold as a separate add-on.

In Microsoft Power Apps, AI is a layered offering of the broader Microsoft Power Platform rather than being a single assistant. Copilot builds apps from natural language descriptions. Microsoft's vibe experience, in public preview at vibe.powerapps.com, generates a data model and a working app from a natural-language prompt. Both the vibe experience and Microsoft 365 Copilot for canvas apps are in public preview and not intended for production use.

AI agents are built in Microsoft Copilot Studio rather than in Power Apps itself. Once built, they can be embedded back into apps and workflows, where agent nodes delegate reasoning, decisions, or output generation to an agent at a defined step. Microsoft 365 Copilot is available in model-driven apps and in public preview for canvas apps. It offers app skills for data entry, visualization, exploration, and summarization. Users can invoke first-party agents like Analyst and Researcher from inside an app. Custom Copilot Studio agents can also be invoked similarly. The agent feed with Power Apps model context protocol server lets users supervise agent activity.

AI in Power Apps is metered rather than bundled. Copilot Credits need to be acquired to use any AI capabilities. When no credit is available, AI actions in apps and flows are blocked.

The platform offers a drag-and-drop form builder with more than 30 field types, including AI and advanced fields. A dashboard builder enables the drag-and-drop creation of dashboards with intuitive auto-visualization, offline data access, and encrypted cloud storage. On the Enterprise plan, built-in Zoho Analytics integration enables users to turn raw data into detailed reports in minutes. Data can be imported from .xls, .csv, and .tsv files with automatic data cleansing, and is transformed into a full application directly from the import.

The platform offers drag-and-drop form creation; however, customization often requires Power Fx expressions or Excel-style formulas.

Power Apps supports offline-first canvas apps, but it's limited to Dataverse tables. Non-Dataverse connectors, including SharePoint, aren't supported offline. Embedded canvas apps, custom pages, and canvas apps in Teams are also not supported offline.

Built-in geofencing and internet protocol (IP) address tracking, which are native to Zoho Creator, require Azure services or custom connectors in Power Apps.

Automation is a core platform objective. Aside from prompt-to-workflow support, the platform provides a drag-and-drop workflow builder, alongside a visual BPM feature called Blueprints for multi-level approvals.

On the Enterprise plan, built-in Zoho Flow integration connects Zoho Creator apps to other Zoho products and more than 1,000 third-party tools without a separate purchase. Zoho RPA (robotic process automation) support allows users to handle user interface and process automation.

Power Apps relies on Power Automate for workflow automation and RPA, and Microsoft Copilot Studio for chatbots. Both need to be procured separately in most cases. Some Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 enterprise plans bundle automation access without a separate purchase.

Zoho Creator comes with a powerful application development lifecycle management (ADLM) feature, which is useful for testing out applications before deploying them to end users. Creator's ADLM offers three stages: development, staging, and production. Development allows developers to edit solutions, staging allows testers to validate the changes made, and production pushes the changes live.

Zoho Creator adheres to many international standards for data security, including HIPAA, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), GDPR, and SOC 2 Type II. Zoho also owns and operates its own data centers, which are highly secure, encrypted installations.

Power Apps offers log, user, and change management. It also provides minor and major update tracking to applications, automatic scaling based on changing numbers of users, and built-in analytics. Power Apps includes testing features, and the platform supports governance and application lifecycle management (ALM) through the Pipelines feature. However, Pipelines requires managed environments, which in turn require every user in the environment to hold a premium license.

A free plan is available for a single user and application, alongside a 15-day trial of the paid plans. There are three plans: the Standard plan: $8/user/month, the Professional plan: $20/user/month, and the Enterprise plan: $25/user/month (all billed annually).

AI models are included in the plan rather than sold as an add-on, with 100 custom and 250 ready-to-use models on Professional and Enterprise. Portal users for external access are bought as an add-on.

There is a free Developer plan, but it cannot be used for production: three developer environments, 2 GB of Dataverse storage, and 750 flow runs per month. Power Apps Premium is quoted at $20 per user per month on an annual term, with a separate plan at $12 per user per month for deployments of 2,000 seats or more. Microsoft announced on Sept. 9, 2026 that both Premium plans increase on Jan. 1, 2027, to $22 and $14, respectively. Existing subscriptions retain their price to the end of the term. Each Premium license gets 250 MB of database and 2 GB of file capacity, pooled at the tenant level. Additional Dataverse database capacity is $40 per GB per month. The Power Apps per-app SKU stopped being available to new customers through several channels effective Jan. 2, 2026, removing the lower-cost entry point for single-app deployments.
