Introduction to Zoho ZeptoMail
Zoho ZeptoMail is a dedicated transactional email service designed to deliver time-sensitive emails triggered by user actions—such as OTPs, order confirmations, or password resets. It ensures faster delivery, higher inbox placement and reliable security. ZeptoMail doesn't recommend sending marketing emails using the service, to maintain maximum deliverability and sender reputation.
Transactional emails
Transactional emails are automated emails usually triggered by a user action on a website or an application. Hence, the recipient is actively seeking them. They contain sensitive information based on user behaviour on the website or app. So, timely delivery is crucial to build trust and credibility in your brand. Transactional emails can be categorized as:
- Account notification emails: Emails sent out to acknowledge actions that occur in a user's account. Example: login attempts, new comments on a blog and more.
- User-requested emails: These emails are sent out when users request a particular service or action. Example: verification codes for a password reset, downloaded files, etc.

- Support and feedback emails: Emails that relay support requests or customer feedbacks.
Marketing emails
Marketing emails are usually a single message (like newsletters, promotional emails etc.,) sent to a large group at once. They are not triggered by a particular user action on a website or application, but are scheduled by marketers. Hence, users are not actively seeking these emails.

Transactional emails differ from marketing emails in the following ways :

| Optimized for maximum engagement | Optimized for speed and inbox placement |
| Eg., Newsletters, marketing emails | Eg., Account activation emails, password reset emails, OTPs |

Why are marketing emails not allowed in ZeptoMail?
We support transactional emails alone to ensure greater deliverability and maintain trustworthy IP addresses. This is done because marketing emails have a higher probability of being flagged as spam since not many recipients may find them useful. With regular spam instances from a particular IP, internet service providers might deem that address as unreliable. When you have a common IP address for both marketing and transactional emails, the IP reputation due to the marketing email activity will affect your transactional emails too. Hence, to maintain optimum delivery for your transactional emails, we have a separate transactional email channel.
